Meet The Staff

Anne Jensen

Anne Carroll Jensen earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance from Marygrove College in 1978. It was there that she first met a "much younger" high school apprentice named Kelly (Roberts) Powers. Anne began her career teaching all forms of dance, but when she joined the staff of The Turning Pointe in 1984 she was able to devote all her energies to her first love, BALLET.

In addition to performing Nutcracker, Coppelia, Concerto in F, and Rhapsody with Dance Detroit, Miss Anne has strived to impact her community through sharing her passion for dance. She choreographed Where the Wild Things Are and Peter the Wolf for the Lake St. Clair Symphony. She taught music and movement at St. Germaine School, and advocated literacy through dance with presentations of Caps for Sale, Hocus and Pocus at the Circus, and Cinderella. Miss Anne has been an artistic consultant for competitive figure skaters and synchronized skating teams. Her charitable projects include organizing student performances at Festival of Trees and Bon Secours Senior Living Center. In 2004, she choreographed and presented highlights from Coppelia at a very successful benefit for Miss Toni Diamond.

Miss Anne's classes are fun and funny with an emphasis on "creative problem solving." She believes that the skills we learn in dance go far beyond coordination, flexibility, poise, and fitness - we learn manners, discipline, grace under pressure, teamwork, goal setting, patience, impulse control, self respect, and empowerment. Her graduating students, who have moved on to become doctors, lawyers, nurses, educators, therapists, and dancers, are a testament to her belief.
